The United States Embassy is pleased to announce the second round of the 2018 Democracy Commission Small Grants Program competition. The program supports initiatives that develop democracy, promote respect for human rights, and support civic education in Armenia.

Program Description

The United States Embassy is pleased to announce the second round of the 2018 Democracy Commission Small Grants Program competition. The program supports initiatives that develop democracy, promote respect for human rights, and support civic education in Armenia.

Special consideration will be given to proposals that focus on one or more of the following:

  • Enhance cooperation among the media, civil society, and the general public to eliminate different forms of corruption;
  • Advance human rights, especially those with a focus on minorities and vulnerable groups within society, including individuals with disabilities, victims of gender-based violence, refugees, and members of the LGBTI community;
  • Promote opportunities for women and integrate women into decision-making processes within their communities, especially those with a focus on young women;
  • Strengthen labor rights protection in Armenia;
  • Supporttransparency and accountability in governance, business, and society;
  • Develop independent, diverse, and pluralistic media in Armenia, including investigative journalism;
  • Enhance economic growth and development and particularly entrepreneurship and tourism in Armenia;
  • Promote reconciliation and lasting partnerships between the people of Armenia and Azerbaijan and/or Turkey, including plans for continued cooperation after the project ends.

All projects shouldexplain how the proposed activities impact Armenia’s democratic development and further the long-term goals of the organization. Project proposals should describe specific objectives and expected outcomes. Proposals focused primarily on training or capacity building will not be considered unless the training will lead to concrete, measurable outcomes. Proposals should not exceed twelve months and must include beginning and ending dates. Collaborative projects between partnering NGOs are strongly encouraged.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants: Non-governmental, not-for-profit organizations (NGOs) and independent media outlets registered in Armenia. Grants may not be used for partisan political activities or commercial gain.

Only applications submitted before the deadline will be considered for funding. After submitting the application electronically, the portal will notify you about your successful submission.

Evaluation Criteria: Proposals will be evaluated according to the project’s relevance to the Democracy Commission Small Grants Program goals;the extent to which the project has clearly formulated objectives, target groups, and expected outcomes; and the ability of the applying organization to carry out the project aims. Final approvals from responsible offices at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC, are obtained before the grants are signed.
